Interior Design App: One Wall, Three Millwork Treatments
Most design decisions are small and expensive to get wrong. A wall treatment is one of them. Here is one fireplace wall, three ways, with everything else held still.
What stayed the same
Everything except the wall. The oak beams, the vaulted ceiling, the fireplace, the mantel and the television are identical in all four frames. So are the sectional, the oak coffee table, the rug, the lamp and the greenery on the table. The window on the left shows the same lawn and the same play set beyond it.
What changed
Shiplap runs vertical boards up the wall and across the ceiling, which brightens the whole space. Raised panels frame the wall in cream, with a taller centre panel over the mantel. The grid version applies a simple pattern of moulding and paints it sage green, so the wall becomes the colour in an otherwise neutral space.
Style notes
