Home Office Ideas: Junk Room to Library

Most spare rooms are not really rooms. They are where things go to be dealt with later. The distance between that and a room you actually want to sit in is usually paint, light and storage, in that order.

What stayed the same

This is the clearest example we have. The door is the same door, with the same brass knob and the same brass hinges. The window keeps its original white blinds. The textured ceiling and the flush ceiling light are untouched, and the original carpet is still visible around the edges of the rug. The desk sits in the same corner it always did.

What changed

Deep green paint over the cream does most of the work. The pine corner shelving became walnut floating shelves, and the cable strewn black desk became a solid walnut one. Black curtains were hung over the blinds that were already there. An antique map with a picture light gives the wall a focal point, and a persian rug covers the worn centre of the carpet rather than replacing it.

Style notes

These designs were generated with Recasa from a real room photo. The walls, windows and layout are unchanged, and that is the point. Furniture and finishes are AI visualisations, not photographs of a finished build.
